The City of Bismarck is moving forward with plans to enhance public safety services in its southern sector, having finalized the selection of a city-owned location for the upcoming Fire Station #6. This strategic decision marks a significant development in the city's efforts to bolster its emergency response infrastructure.

Fire Station #6 will be situated west of Washington Street, near Calypso Drive. This location places the new facility approximately a half-mile south of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, a placement chosen to best serve the needs of residents in that part of Bismarck. The precise siting of the station is a culmination of careful consideration by city officials.

Bismarck Fire Chief Joel Boespflug elaborated on the rationale behind the chosen site. Chief Boespflug stated that "selecting this location was the result of data-driven decision making." He further explained that the primary goal is to help bring the Fire Department’s response times back under what officials consider appropriate thresholds for the far south part of Bismarck. This targeted approach is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency services in the growing area.

The funding for Fire Station #6 has been secured through financial commitments previously identified by earlier city commissions. The project is anticipated to incur a cost of approximately $6.5 million. These allocated dollars underscore a longstanding commitment to public safety infrastructure within the city.

In addition to the physical structure, plans are also in place for staffing and equipping the new station. City of Bismarck Communications Strategist Kalen Ost confirmed that an additional fire engine and other necessary equipment are scheduled to be put into service in early 2027. This new apparatus will complement the fire protection capabilities of Station #6, ensuring comprehensive coverage for the community.

The selection process for the station’s location involved a thorough examination of multiple potential sites across Bismarck. City officials explored several locations along key routes, specifically Washington Street and Burleigh Avenue. This rigorous evaluation utilized comprehensive fire data and advanced GIS mapping tools to inform the final decision. This data-driven methodology ensured that the chosen location provides optimal strategic advantage for emergency response. The city's diligent approach aimed to identify the most effective placement to enhance safety for residents and businesses in south Bismarck.
