Flasher High School's long-serving volleyball coach, Jerlyn Gabrielson, has reached a significant career milestone, eclipsing 700 wins. The achievement occurred on October 3 during the Washburn Invitational Volleyball Tournament, marking a notable moment in the Bulldogs' program history. Gabrielson holds a unique distinction as the only head coach the Flasher Bulldogs' program has ever known, guiding the team through every stage of its development from its earliest days.
This accomplishment reflects a deep and consistent commitment to the Flasher High School volleyball program. Seven hundred career wins represent decades of dedication on the court and in the community surrounding the school. The milestone highlights a tenure characterized by sustained effort and the continuous development of local athletes. Gabrielson’s leadership has been a constant through the evolution of the Flasher volleyball team, providing stability and direction over many seasons. Her role as the program's sole head coach underscores a remarkable level of continuity for the Bulldogs, a rare feat in high school athletics.
The Flasher Bulldogs' volleyball program began as an intramural team during the 1993-1994 season, laying the groundwork for future competitive play. Under Gabrielson’s guidance, the team quickly progressed, transitioning from an intramural setup to a junior varsity program. By 1995, the program had elevated to varsity status, officially entering the competitive landscape of North Dakota high school volleyball. Gabrielson has been at the helm for every one of these developmental steps, guiding the team through its foundational years and into its established varsity presence. Her consistent leadership has been instrumental in shaping the program from its inception.
Over the years, the Flasher Bulldogs have made numerous appearances at the state tournament, a testament to the program's competitive success under Gabrielson. The team has qualified for the state tournament nine times, demonstrating a strong track record across multiple decades. These state tournament seasons include 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2019, 2020, and 2025. Such frequent qualifications underscore the program's consistent ability to compete at a high level within its classification, bringing regional recognition to Flasher High School. In the current season, the Bulldogs continue to perform strongly, building on their established history of success. The team holds an impressive overall record of 22 wins against only 3 losses. Within Class B, Region Four, the Flasher Bulldogs maintain a commanding record of 9 wins and just 1 loss, positioning them as a strong contender in their competitive region. This strong showing reflects the ongoing impact of Gabrielson's coaching and the current athletes' dedication.
