The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will once again make its way through North Dakota, marking its 28th year of spreading cheer and collecting donations for local food banks. This year’s train, adorned with festive lights, is scheduled to run later in the year, arriving on Friday, December 18, and continuing through Saturday, December 19.
The CP Holiday Train serves a dual purpose, offering free concert performances alongside its critical mission to raise money and collect food for those in need. Since its inception in 1999, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train has collectively raised more than $21 million and gathered 5 million pounds of food for North American food banks. Organizers emphasize that all donations collected at each Holiday Train stop are retained within that specific community to support local residents.
This year’s North Dakota stops will feature concert performances by singer-songwriters Shawnee Kish and Jamie Fine. While attendance at these concerts is free, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train encourages all attendees to bring a non-perishable food item for their local food bank. Specific local food pantries benefiting from donations include Carrington Daily Bread in Carrington, the Central Dakota Food Pantry in Harvey, the Minot Area Homeless Shelter Coalition in Minot, and the Kenmare Food Pantry in Kenmare.
