Bismarck native Macie Vig announced her commitment to play Division I hockey for Bemidji State, sharing the news on social media Wednesday night. Vig, who previously played two seasons with Century High School, will join the Beavers' program after completing two more years of high school hockey. Her commitment follows a strong athletic trajectory locally before her recent transfer.
During her time at Century High School, Vig made a significant impact on the Patriots' hockey program. In her sophomore season, she recorded 21 goals and amassed a total of 45 points, demonstrating her offensive capabilities on the ice for the local team. Her performance during these two seasons established her as a notable player within the Bismarck high school hockey scene.
Over the summer, Vig made a move to Holy Family Catholic High School. This transfer occurred as she continued to develop her skills ahead of her future collegiate career. She is slated to complete two more years of high school hockey before transitioning to the Division I level at Bemidji State, marking a long-term plan for her academic and athletic pursuits.
The Vig family has established a strong connection with Bemidji State University's hockey programs. Macie Vig's brother, Maxon Vig, is currently a sophomore participating in the men's hockey program at the university. Furthermore, another brother, Charlie Vig, has also committed to the Beavers. Charlie Vig is presently gaining experience in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Omaha Lancers before he joins the Bemidji State roster. This familial tradition at Bemidji State underscores the multi-generational presence of local talent at the Minnesota institution.
Beyond her high school and future collegiate commitments, Vig has also been involved in national development. Over the summer, she participated in a USA Hockey Development Camp. Following this experience, Vig shared insights into her time at the camp during an appearance on "The Dakota Drive," discussing her development and what it means for her growth as an athlete.
This commitment represents a significant step for a Bismarck athlete, highlighting the talent cultivated within local sports programs. Vig's path from Century High School, through her transfer, and toward a Division I university reflects dedicated effort on and off the ice. As she continues her high school career, the Bismarck community will watch her progress towards joining her brothers at Bemidji State and competing at the collegiate level.
