Bismarck Global Neighbors, an organization situated on Broadway, has recently commenced Spanish language classes. This initiative is part of the group's ongoing mission to connect newcomers from various backgrounds with the broader community. Employees at Bismarck Global Neighbors state that the classes aim to create an environment more conducive to receiving new residents in the Bismarck and Mandan area.
Currently, the organization offers two distinct Spanish language courses. When the first classes began in May, nearly 20 participants enrolled. As of this fall, 15 individuals are taking part in the program. Each class is structured as a 12-week course, providing participants with a dedicated period for language acquisition and practice.
Donald Moncada, the Director of Health and Integration for Bismarck Global Neighbors, highlighted the rationale behind these new offerings. Moncada explained that speaking in Spanish offers "a way to interact better with our families" who are settling into the community. This focus on practical communication skills directly supports the organization's goal of improving interaction and integration for diverse populations.
Looking to the future, Bismarck Global Neighbors is exploring the possibility of introducing additional language classes. Moncada stated that the organization is considering offering French classes and, importantly, English classes to further support the families it serves. The continuation of the current Spanish classes and the potential for these new programs depend significantly on a positive response from the community, according to Moncada. Strong community interest and participation will be key factors in determining the long-term future and expansion of these language initiatives.
The introduction of these language courses by Bismarck Global Neighbors on Broadway represents a tangible effort to address the needs of a growingly diverse population in Burleigh and Morton counties. By offering these foundational Spanish classes, and with the potential to expand into French and English, the organization is actively working to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps, making the transition smoother for newcomers. The initial enrollment figures, with almost 20 participants in May and 15 in the fall, demonstrate a consistent community interest in these opportunities, suggesting a demand for such integrative programs. The 12-week duration of each course signifies a commitment to thorough instruction, enabling participants to gain meaningful language proficiency. Moncada's vision for broadening the class offerings to include French and English illustrates a comprehensive approach to supporting both the local residents in communicating with newcomers and the newcomers in navigating their new surroundings. This strategic investment in language education underscores Bismarck Global Neighbors’ dedication to fostering a more inclusive and interconnected community, where all residents have the tools to interact and thrive. The success and future growth of these valuable programs, however, will largely depend on sustained engagement and support from the Bismarck and Mandan communities.
