Bismarck, ND — The Bismarck Event Center has served as a central hub for entertainment, consistently drawing major musical acts to residents of Bismarck and Mandan. The venue, known as the Bismarck Civic Center until its official renaming in 2014, boasts a rich history of hosting large-scale events, including concerts, trade shows, and conventions.
Recently, Amanda Yellow, Sales and Marketing Manager for the Bismarck Event Center, undertook an effort to review historical records of concert attendance. Working in collaboration with the Bismarck Events Center Officer Supervisor, Mrs. Yellow aimed to identify some of the most significant concert draws the venue has hosted throughout its operational history. According to Mrs. Yellow, compiling comprehensive attendance data for earlier events presented unique challenges, as the former Bismarck Civic Center did not maintain electronic attendance records prior to 2005, instead relying on a calendar system. Despite these variations in record-keeping, their review highlighted several memorable performances.
Among the concerts identified as top draws were performances by notable country music artists. In 2014, the stage welcomed Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, and Lee Brice. Two years prior, in 2012, Blake Shelton performed alongside Justin Moore and Gwen Sebastian. These events represent some of the significant talent that has graced the Bismarck Event Center, providing entertainment for thousands of local attendees.
The facility itself is designed as a multi-purpose venue, with the capacity to accommodate just over 10,000 people for its larger concert events. Its versatility extends beyond music, regularly hosting trade shows and conventions that contribute to activity in the city. The land upon which the Bismarck Event Center stands, along with the adjacent parking lots, was a donation from the Wachter family of Bismarck, as cited by Wikipedia. This foundational contribution helped establish the venue as a cornerstone of the community.
Over the years, the Bismarck Event Center has also served as a home for various area sports teams, further cementing its role as a key community asset. Among its past tenants were the Bismarck Bobcats, a NAHL Junior hockey team, which utilized the facility for a period. The venue also hosted the Dakota Wizards, a team that competed in the Continental Basketball Association, then part of the NBA Development League. More recently, the Bismarck Bucks, a team in the CIF Indoor Football League, also called the center home.
Looking ahead, the Bismarck Event Center is preparing to host another country music artist. Tracy Lawrence is scheduled to perform on Thursday night, continuing the venue's tradition of bringing live entertainment to the Bismarck-Mandan area. This upcoming event underscores the center's ongoing commitment to providing diverse programming for local residents.
