Construction efforts on the Tyler Parkway project and associated Tyler Coulee watershed initiatives are reportedly nearing completion for their 2026 season, as City of Bismarck - News Flash reported. The substantial infrastructure work undertaken this year is preparing these areas for a planned winter suspension, impacting residents in Bismarck and Mandan who use these routes and are served by this crucial infrastructure.
On the Tyler Parkway project, crews have completed major underground installations, putting in over 4,000 feet of storm sewer pipes. This extensive system is critical for managing rainwater runoff, helping to prevent localized flooding and ensuring the stability of surrounding roads and properties. Alongside the storm sewer, 55 concrete manholes have been installed, providing essential access points for future maintenance and inspection of the drainage network. This significant investment in the area's underground utilities lays a foundation for long-term community resilience.
The final stages of heavy construction for the season are swiftly concluding. Dirt excavation, a foundational element of the project, was set to wrap up, with subsequent topsoil work scheduled to follow and conclude next week. Asphalt paving, which brings the road surface to its functional state, was also slated for completion. These steps signify the transition from major earthworks and structural additions to the finishing and stabilization phases.
Looking ahead into the first week of November, the primary focus for crews will shift to environmental stabilization and site preparation. This includes extensive seeding and the installation of erosion control measures. These steps are vital for preventing soil loss, especially with the impending colder weather and potential freeze-thaw cycles that can destabilize freshly disturbed ground. General site cleanup will also be undertaken to ensure the area is safe and tidy before the project enters its winter suspension, meaning major construction activity will pause until the spring thaw allows for its resumption.
Similar progress is being made on the Tyler Coulee watershed projects. These projects, located south of Marsh Hawk Drive and near the Tyler Parkway extension, are also reported to be nearing completion for the 2026 season. Consistent with the Tyler Parkway work, efforts into next week will primarily involve seeding and stabilizing the ground. These watershed improvements often work in concert with road projects to manage water flow across larger areas, protecting both the infrastructure and the environment.
The agencies involved expressed gratitude for the patience shown by the community as these significant infrastructure improvements "wrap up for the 2026 season." The completion of this phase ensures vital drainage and road improvements are in place, with the sites secured for the upcoming winter months.
