The annual "Coats for Kids Event" is underway, calling on residents to donate new and gently used winter gear to help local children stay warm this winter season, The Salvation Army announced. This community-wide effort aims to provide essential winter clothing to area families who need it.
Several local businesses and organizations are serving as drop-off locations for donations. Residents can bring their contributions of coats and other winter apparel to Turitto’s Dry Cleaners, Paradise Dry Cleaning and Laundry, and Village Laundry and Uniform Services. Additionally, the Southwest District Health Unit is accepting donations; those using this location should enter through Door #4 on the south side of the building. Organizers emphasize that "every coat counts," encouraging community participation in this important initiative.
Once collected, the donated items will undergo preparation to ensure they are ready for immediate use. Turitto’s Dry Cleaners, Paradise Dry Cleaning and Laundry, and Village Laundry and Uniform Services will process all donations. These businesses will make sure all collected winter gear is "ready to wear before the snow flies," according to event organizers. This preparation ensures that items are clean and suitable for distribution to families.
The Salvation Army is responsible for the distribution of the winter gear to families in need. Unlike a single distribution day, there is "No Distribution Day;" instead, coats will be given out on an ongoing basis. Distribution of the collected items is set to begin in October and will continue until all available coats and winter apparel have been disbursed.
