Bismarck, ND — Four local businesses have been named finalists in the inaugural Bismarck Business Pitch Challenge, organized by the Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC. These businesses are now competing for a $15,000 forgivable loan intended to help launch or expand their operations within the Bismarck-Mandan region. The announcement marks a significant step in fostering new business ventures in the area, as reported by the Chamber EDC.
The finalists will proceed to a coaching phase where they will work with a specialist from the North Dakota Small Business Development Centers (ND SBDC). These coaching sessions are designed to help each business refine its application, business plan, and presentation skills in preparation for the final pitch event. This pivotal step aims to optimize their proposals before they present to a panel of judges.
The final presentations are scheduled for October 14. This event will take place at the Russell Reid Auditorium, located within the Heritage Center. The Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC has confirmed that the final pitch event is open to the public, welcoming residents to observe the innovative business ideas vying for local support. Media coverage, including still photography and video recording, is also welcomed, indicating the event's public nature and importance to the local economy.
The four businesses selected as finalists represent a diverse range of concepts aimed at serving the community. One finalist business is described as focusing on "intimate curated experiences designed to foster genuine human connection." Another finalist is a "family-run microfarm and refillery offering fresh specialty produce, herbs, edible flowers and low-waste household refills," which states it is "rooted in sustainability, community and simple living."
Among the named finalists is Li & O Baby LLC, founded by Candice Crichlow-Baker. This company, initiated by a physician, aims to create practical, science-driven baby products to solve common parenting challenges. Its initial product focuses on a natural infant formula thickener, addressing specific needs for new parents.
The fourth finalist is Oh SHIP! Pack & Ship Store, led by Brad Feldman. This business plans to offer a comprehensive range of shipping services, including FedEx, Spee-Dee Delivery, and USPS, all consolidated under one roof. In addition to shipping, Oh SHIP! will provide a full print shop, shredding services, and private mailboxes, catering to both personal and business needs in Bismarck and Mandan.
