Bismarck residents interested in learning ballroom dance basics can participate in a free series of classes this fall, as City of Bismarck - News Flash reported. The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, located at 515 North Fifth Street, is partnering with Northern Plains Dance to present “Ballroom Dance Basics” on select Monday evenings in October and November.
These sessions are designed to guide participants through the fundamental skills of social dancing. An experienced instructor from Northern Plains Dance will provide step-by-step guidance on key elements such as "lead and follow" techniques, fundamental footwork patterns, and musicality across various popular dance styles. The program welcomes both those new to dance and individuals with some prior experience.
The series is scheduled for six Monday evenings, running from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Each session will focus on a distinct dance style. The classes begin on Monday, October 19, with an introduction to "Foxy Sway." The following week, on Monday, October 26, participants will learn the "Two Step." As November begins, "East Coast Swing" is slated for November 2. Later in the month, the library will host a session on "Salsa" on November 16. The rhythm continues with "Rumba" on November 23. The final session of the series, concluding the month, on November 30, will introduce attendees to the "Argentine Tango."
All classes will be held in Meeting Room A at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library. The library encourages participation from individuals of all ages, and no prior registration is required to attend. There is also no need for participants to bring a partner to the sessions.
Library officials note that ballroom dancing offers several benefits, including stress relief, a boost in mood, and a way to stay active. It also serves as a social activity that can be enjoyed with friends, family, or other community members. Sarah Matthews, Head of Adult Services at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, indicated that the program is open and accessible to the public, aiming to provide a fun and engaging experience for all attendees.
Kevin R. Tengesdal, Public Information Specialist for the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, confirmed that media are invited to attend and cover the events.
